It’s almost winter, which means it’s time to start thinking about fun things you can do as a family! From sledging and seeing winter lights, there are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. But how do you know what you can do to inspire your winter calendar? In this blog post, we’re going to take a look at five of our favourites.
1. Go Sledging
If you’re lucky enough to get snow, sledging is a classic winter activity that’s perfect for families. Head to your local park or hill and spend the afternoon racing each other down the slopes! If you don’t have a sled, no problem—a trash can lid or cardboard box will do the trick. Just make sure everyone is bundled up in warm clothes before heading out.
2. Play in the Snow
If you’re looking for something active to do as a family when it snows, why not head outside and play in the snow? You can build fortresses, have snowball fights or even just go for a walk in the winter wonderland. One of the most fun things to do is build a snowman. You can build out the body, use a carrot for the nose, twigs for arms, and even add a hat and a scarf. You could even turn it into a snowman making competition for the whole family. Again, just make sure everyone is properly dressed for the cold weather.
3. Take a Winter Road Trip
It’s always good to see the Christmas lights in your home town or neighbourhood, but you could also think about taking a bit of a mini road trip to further towns to see Christmas lights or even what activities are going on there. Better yet, you could all pile into your motorhome (or rent one) to make it a bit of a winter tour. Just make sure you have your lithium ion leisure battery for the ride. Also be sure to plan out your route so you know what you’re going to see.
4. Make Gingerbread Houses
Making gingerbread houses is a great winter tradition. You can either buy a kit at your local store or bake your own gingerbread from scratch using this recipe. Once you have your gingerbread house assembled, it’s time to get creative with the decorations! Use candy canes for the walls, marshmallows for the roof, and M&M’s for the windows. The possibilities are endless!
5. Watch Holiday Movies
One of the best things about winter is snuggling up on the couch with some hot cocoa and watching holiday movies as a family. There are so many great films to choose from, whether you’re looking for something heart-warming or hilarious. Some of our favourites include Miracle on 34th Street, Elf, The Polar Express, and Home Alone.
Making Memories as a Family this Winter
From playing in the snow to making gingerbread houses, there are plenty of fun things to do as a family this winter! It’s all about planning ahead, seeing what’s available in your local area, and trying to make as many memories as you can. What are your favourite things to do as a family during winter?
