This year, Mothering Sunday falls on 19th March. The original ‘Mothering Sunday’ was aimed at girls who’d gone out to be in service (working as housemaids and cooks) to give the opportunity to return to their home town and attend their ‘mother church’. As days off were not plentiful, this became a rare opportunity for the family to spend time together, and evolved into the idea of visiting your own mother.
It’s become the perfect opportunity to show your mum how much you appreciate her, particularly if you can’t see her as often as you would like. Although flowers are a traditional present, you might want to think about a more permanent present. We’ve put together a guide to Mother’s Day gifts that are sure to find favour.
