New shop discoveries:Freddie Freckle

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

small-pink-cake-stand

We’re always on the lookout for new shops and were pleased to discover Freddie Freckle recently. They sell lots of nice shabby chic and vintage homeware items, but what caught our eye initially was the fact that they sell both new and once loved items.

Their shopping site is easy to use and is split into sections, with the new and once loved items clearly distinguishable. The once loved items are great, as you never know quite what you’ll find, and it’s a nice online alternative to hunting out vintage and collectable items in a secondhand shop.

We’re particular fond of the Afternoon Tea area of the store, where there are all sorts of great tea sets, cake stands, cake plates and more. One of the pretty and affordable items in store now is this small pink glass cake stand (15cm diameter), which is perfect for small cakes or biscuits, and is only £4.95.

Why not go and explore Freddie Freckle yourself?

Beautiful set of vintage tea plates

Vintage plate selection

I’m a big fan of vintage plates and this is a great way of starting a collection or adding to an existing one.

The Traditional Flower Company are selling a selection of six vintage plates, all with a floral theme, that would be perfect for serving up afternoon tea on or simply for displaying in your home.

The plates all measure about 15cm in diameter, feature pretty pastel colours and floral decorations. Hunting for old plates and other pieces of china in charity shops and markets is fine, but you can’t guarantee that you’ll find plates with a similar floral theme or that measure approximately the same size, so this is a really good way of boosting your vintage plate collection.

The set of six floral plates are sent packed in a gift box and can be purchased from The Traditional Flower Company.

Collected memories wall art mirror

Unusual mirror art

Unusual mirror art

Is it a mirror, or is it wall art? Well, it could serve as both.

This unusual piece, called Collected Memories, is made up of a collection of random, vintage mirrors which have been put together to form a unique piece of wall art. No two mirrors are exactly the same and every piece is unique.

It’s a lovely use of old mirrors, bringing new life into pieces that may well have been long since discarded.

The Collected Memories wall art mirror is sold by Anthropologie, for the rather hefty price of £618.

If you happen to be feeling creative, or have a few old mirrors or picture frames lurking in your loft, then perhaps you could feel inspired to do something similar?

Personalised handmade house name sign

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Name your house

Name your house

If your house has a name, either in addition to a number or as an alternative to it, ensuring the name is displayed clearly can really make a difference for helping postmen and visitors successfully find your home.

Signs like this one are handmade to order from Delightful Living, on Not On The High Street. They make the signs from reclaimed wood, which is gently distressed to give it a vintage feel. The exact size of the sign will vary depending on the length of the name you’d like put on it and you can choose whether you want the words in one single line, or split over two lines.

When the signs are finished, they are waterproofed wtih a clear matt seal, so they’re protected from the elements.

The personalised house name sign is £40 and you can find out more at their store at Not On The High Street.

Plumo large patchwork pumpkin pouf

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Vintage fabric pouf

Vintage fabric pouf

Plumo have just launched their new Spring/Summer 2010 collection and we’ve fallen in love with this large patchwork pumpkin pouf.

Made in Denmark from a random selection of vintage velvet, floral and striped fabrics, the large pumpkin shaped pouf is ideal for use as an occasional seat, footstool or floor cushion.

The eclectic piece measures 70cm by 30cm and serves a practical purpose, as well as being great to look at. You can’t guarantee exactly which fabrics will have been used in each one, but that just adds to its charm.

The only slight downside is the price (£198, eek), so it looks like we’ll be saving up for a while. Go check it out for yourself at Plumo.

Bombay Duck reduced vintage chandelier

Vintage Lolita chandelier

Vintage Lolita chandelier

Bombay Duck is one of my favourite shops and I love exploring all the new door handles, hooks and other gorgeous homeware that they’ve got in stock.

They’re renowned for having lovely chandeliers, although usually they’re a bit far out of my budget. But then this beauty caught my eye.

The bestselling vintage Lolita black chandelier, with crystal flowers, has been significantly reduced in price – down from £245 to £125. It’s adorned with tiny black beads, crystal cut flowers and crystal pendants and would look stunning hung from the ceiling.

I’m sorely tempted. What do you think?

Antique style clock

Antique style clock

It may look years and years old but this clock is really a clever reproduction by clock specialists Newgate.

Based on a clock found at an antiques market, this version has a traditional convex metal dome and has been carefully printed to look aeons old.

We think it would suit a kitchen or lounge and you can snag it for £65 here.
