From shabby to chic: Four vintage styling themes for your conservatory

Incorporating some vintage style into your conservatory is a great option if your home is more traditional than modern, or simply if you fancy yourself a little bit of a collector. After pursuing conservatory cleaning, it is time to style the space to make it feel like a fun part of your home. Even if your sunroom isn’t of the classical Victorian or Edwardian type, it’s easy to recreate a vintage atmosphere when you already have a decorating theme in mind, or better: a story to tell.

1. For the bookish type

Conservatories are ideal spaces to create a unique and relaxing atmosphere within the house, and a perfect area to showcase your vintage book collection. You can get really creative with heavy oak shelves and bookcases against the walls, and lift up the mood with some carefully picked accessories such as a vintage desk lamp and a few vintage frames.

Add a persian carpet, cushions and plaids thrown over some thrifted armchairs and sofas. To lighten up the overall scheme, opt for white, semi-transparent curtains.

2. For the collector

If you love to collect vintage memorabilia, you can turn your conservatory into a live-in cabinet of curiosities: it’s a real showstopper for when you have guests around to entertain.

Take inspiration from famous explorers, and turn of the 19th century memorabilia with vintage maps framed on the walls, and thrifted leather suitcases stacked up on shelves or directly on the floor and glass vases in all shapes and forms. Add a few plants: you could even try those macrame plant hangers if your roof allows it.

You could also assemble your collection in a thrifted glass cabinet that will become the main focal point and an amazing conversation piece, as well as containing and protecting all of your vintage treasures. Finally, bamboo curtains on the windows of your sunroom would be a great touch for that victorian explorer look.

 3. For the vintage cottage lover

With its cute and nostalgic undertones, the rustic farmhouse look is always a crowd pleaser.  What’s more, with an ideal transitional location between house and garden, sunrooms and conservatories are really well suited for the vintage farmhouse style.

Think wooden bench and stools, floral prints and vintage tins and kitchenware. Don’t forget to mix and match: it’s got to feel lived-in and organic. Touches of bright colours are great to wake up a rustic looking scheme: look for a brightly colored piece or two to take pride of place in the room and become the natural focal point.

4. For the 50’s aficionado

The 50’s were an amazing era for all design aficionados out there. Colour is very important to start off with: blues, mustard yellows, olive green and orange… Scout for very trendy vintage formica tables and chairs for that immediately recognisable look and don’t forget to pick up a great 50’s lighting fixture on your way to the thrift store.
