These days, it seems there’s an international or national recognition event almost every day. There are days dedicated to beer, books, plant milk and even being a middle child! We’ve just discovered, though, that there’s an entire day dedicated to being lazy and we’re enchanted with it – we’re just not sure we can be bothered to celebrate it!
This year, Lazy Day falls on August 10 which is, rather bizarrely, a Thursday. Lazy Day was founded in 1984 as the closing day of the Festival of Industry, Trade and Culture in Columbia. In 2012, it started to be internationally recognised. Although it’s an officially recognised day, there are no celebrations or traditions associated with it – that would be far too much trouble! We love the idea of an official day where we can mooch around on the couch all day in celebration – just don’t celebrate too hard. Here’s our perfect timetable.
The lie in
As a lazy day, August 10 shouldn’t even see the light of day until at least 10ish! If you’ve got a house full of people and everyone is insisting on celebrating lazy day then you might have to get a bit organised the night before. Clean, crisp cotton bedding is the way to go for the perfect lie in.
Spring sprig printed cotton percale bundle, Piglet in Bed
We like this floral cotton bedding collection from the wonderfully appropriately named Piglet in Bed. Featuring a vintage-inspired floral motif and made from soft and breathable washed percale cotton, this cundle is the perfect bedding set for those who want to transform their bedtime aesthetic. Opt for a total floral look or mix and match with plain colours from the washed cotton collection. Bundle prices start from around £180, available from Piglet in Bed.
The brunch
We’re not even going to try and call it ‘breakfast’ – this is a mid-morning meal, plain and simple. The only problem might be finding someone prepared to make it for you!
Palmero breakfast tray, Sweetpea & Willow
Breakfast in bed, anyone? Spoil yourself with this lovely Palmero Tray, and get that indulgent, hotel-quality feeling in your very own home. Made from rattan, it costs £145 from Sweetpea & Willow.
Three-piece bamboo tray set, VonShef
Comprising three individually sized trays, this classically chic and lightweight set will make it much easier to carry food, drinks and other small items around the home. Made from strong bamboo with integrated cut-out handles. Heat resistant and ideal for carrying hot and cold food and drinks. Trays nest together neatly for compact storage when not in use. Thanks to a convenient wipe-clean surface, it’s easy to keep the trays in tip-top condition. Was £24.99 now £19.99, available from VonShef.
Relaxing in the garden
What next? Well, nothing too strenuous. In fact, it’s straight to a deckchair in the garden (or the sofa, depending on weather conditions) with a good book or some music.
Edwardian deckchair, The Stripes Company
This classic blue and white striped Edwardian deckchair is such a good idea – it comes with a shade canopy and a footstool, so you never have to move! Each deckchair is covered to order in blue white white striped fabric and has an optional pompom fringe on the canopy. £275, available from The Stripes Company.
Honestly, we’re exhausted after all that planning – if you want us, we’ll be outside reviving ourselves with a cuppa – if we can find someone to make it for us. Happy Lazy Day!
