Things That Make Your Home Look Dated

We all want our homes to look as good as possible, and we want to create a comfortable and cosy home that reflects are own style and individuality.

With that in mind, we’re looking at a few things that might be making your home look dated, and which by changing or removing, could instantly bring your home right up to date in the best possible way.

Textured ceilings

Textured ceilings may be pretty difficult to get rid of, but if you don’t want your home decor to be dated, it is a good idea that you do because they scream the 80s. Today, it’s very much, clean lines and smooth plastering that is in fashion whether it be on the walls or the ceiling.

White appliances

White appliances were once the most popular choice, but these days, they have been overtaken by cool, chrome, and bolder colours like red or even black. If your kitchen is full of white appliances, start replacing them with a more modern palette as and when they break down, and before you know it, your kitchen space will look more up-to-date than ever.

Big brick fireplaces

If you live in an old 17th-century manor house, then a big brick fireplace may well enhance the appearance of your home and make it look even better, but if you are living in a small 20th or 21st century home and you still have one of those big ugly brick fire surrounds in place, then skip bin hire and a good contractor to help you take it down are your best friend. These kinds of fireplaces dominate the room and date the place to the 70s, which is far from ideal. If you can’t get rid, then at least paint them white, mint green or another light pastel shade to make them feel lighter and more modern.

TVs on the wall

This is a controversial one, as some people still love wall hung TVs! However, some say that having your TV on the wall, or owning a built-in entertainment centre was something that was very much big at the turn of the century, and became outdated by the 2010s. If you are still displaying your TV in either of these ways, then making a change and investing in a small table or cabinet to perch the TV on will bring your more up-to-date, as will ensure that you have something other than the TV, a painting or a feature wall., as the main focal point in the space.

Borders

Wallpaper borders and dado rails were very popular in the 80s and 90s, but today, they look very fussy and dated. Removing them and painting your walls in a single block of colour will automatically lift any space that has previously had a border in place.

If you have any of these, potentially dating, things in your home, then unless you are really attached to them, removing or modifying them, will certainly help to make your home feel more stylish and modern. So, what are you waiting for?!
