Shop to Explore: The Laundry

Monday, June 20th, 2011

We’re always on the lookout for new shops to explore and recently came across The Laundry.

At first glance, the name and tag line (Homewares, Jam & Pyjamas) can be a bit confusing, but rest assured, this is a quaint online shop selling all sorts of homeware goodies. The jam part of the equation stems from the fact that the shop is run by jam-maker and author, Gloria Nichol; there’s a section covering jam-related products, including the chance to buy some lovely little vintage French style jam pots.

As ever, it’s the vintage items that mostly caught our eye at The Laundry shop – here are some of our favourite picks:

Coral vintage Pyrex kitchen bowl

Gooseberry bowl

This vintage Pyrex bowl is a lovely pinky-coral colour and has a gooseberry design. It’s priced at £19 and would be really useful for the kitchen.

Vintage chocolate mould

Make decorated chocolate bars

I love making handmade chocolates as gifts and this vintage chocolate mould is far nicer than my modern moulds. The heavy metal mould makes six bars of chocolate, with overlapping coiled swirl patterns on, which remind of licorice wheels. It’s £22. Even when not in use, it would be lovely just left out displayed on a shelf as a decorative item.

Metal kitchen storage tin

Metal tin

You can never have enough storage tins and this pink vintage metallic tin is a lovely size and shape. It’s £19. If blue is more your colour, then they also have a blue floral metallic tin in stock too that is equally nice.

If you’ve got a few moments to spare, it’s well worth having a browse of the The Laundry online shop or read their blog, Laundry Etc.

Have you come across any interesting online shops recently?

Shop to Explore: Freddie Freckle

Freddie Freckle shop

We’re always on the lookout for new shops to explore and were pleased to discover Freddie Freckle recently. They sell lots of nice shabby chic and vintage homeware items, but what caught our eye initially was the fact that they sell both new and once loved items.

Their shopping site is easy to use and is split into sections, with the new and once loved items clearly distinguishable. The once loved items are great, as you never know quite what you’ll find, and it’s a nice online alternative to hunting out vintage and collectable items in a secondhand shop.

We’re particular fond of the Afternoon Tea area of the store, where there are all sorts of great tea sets, cake stands, cake plates and more. One of the pretty and affordable items in store now is this small pink glass cake stand (15cm diameter), which is perfect for small cakes or biscuits, and is only £4.95.

Why not go and explore Freddie Freckle yourself?
