Unusual vintage look plate
I can’t help but swoon over vintage homeware and furniture, but sometimes can’t afford the price of the real thing.
Thankfully, this fantastic Paper Planes plate has the look and feel of a vintage item with a price I can afford. Hooray!
Made from ceramic, the plate has a map-like look to the background, with a vintage style postcard on the foreground. On it are written the simple words, “Hello, beautiful.”
It’s a great piece and one I can’t wait to use. As an added benefit of its ‘looking vintage, but not being vintage’ charm, the plate can withstand all the mod cons, like dishwashers, ovens and microwaves.
To get your hands on the Paper Planes ceramic plate, head over to Cloth-Ears, where it’s priced at only £7.99.
Other coordinating items are available too, including this Paper Planes bowl, Paper Planes flask and Paper Planes tea mug and coaster set.

Floral gloss wallpaper
If you’re looking for some floral wallpaper to liven up your walls, but don’t want it to be too overpowering, then this floral sketch design wallpaper from M&S could fit the bill.
The heavy weight vinyl wallpaper is embossed and has a really nice glossy effect, which shimmers in the light. Although it’s a floral design, the outlined sketch design provides just the right amount of colour and interest without dominating the room too much.
As wallpaper goes, it’s fairly reasonably priced too at £15 per roll from M&S.

Magnetic memo board
There’s something inherently cheery about apple designs. That’s certainly the case with this apple shaped magnetic noticeboard, which looks fresh and cheery positioned on the wall in your home.
I’d use it in my kitchen, but it would look just as at home on the wall of a children’s room or in a study.
The apple shaped magnetic notice board is £45 from Beyond the Fridge, in a choice of green or red. Coordinating magnets are available to buy separately, for £1.95, such as this citrus slice.
If you don’t want a magnetic noticeboard, then Fresh Design Blog recently featured a similar red apple memo board that is made of fabric and allows you to keep your shopping lists or important notes safe and secure.

Cute bird door stop
I’d love to have the doors in my home propped open by this cute owl door stop.
Crafted from jolly red gingham and spot appliqued fabric, this vintage style doorstop is both practical and a lovely decorative accessory to have in your home.
The owl is nicely stitched, especially around the button eyes, and comes ready for you to fill with rice and get it into action.
The red owl doorstop is £9.49 from Cloth-ears.

Cute egg cosy
This cute egg cosy is handmade to order and features a colourful letter of the alphabet (of your choice) on the front.
The egg cosy is made from natural vintage linen and the alphabet letter can be in floral or ticking stripe linen.
As well as keeping your boiled eggs warm, if your eggs are cooked to suit individual requirements, it’s a great way of ensuring there’s never any uncertainty of which egg is for which person!
The egg cosy costs £11.25 and can be ordered from Angel. They also do another similar egg cosy with a heart design on the front.

- Give tired old chairs a new look
Chairs and other covered furniture inevitably get worn over time, but rather than buying new furniture, they can be given a whole new lease of life by re-upholstering them. Even if it’s not something you feel qualified to tackle yourself, there are plenty of people who you can hire to do it for you.
Designers Guild have recently launched a range of new fabrics for Autumn/Winter, including the
essential Brenan upholstery fabric. The fabric is classed as a ‘hi-tech weave’ and is made from 60% polyester and 40% polyurethane. The fabric finish has a shimmer to it and, as there’s a massive choice of 35 colours to choose from, you’ve got a very good chance of finding the perfect shade to match your decor.

Luxurious designer bedding
We’re seeing a lot of ruffles and ruching in bedlinen ranges at the moment, as well as on cushions, and it can create quite a luxurious look.
This bedlinen is from the Allure range, designed by singer Kylie Minogue. The faux silk duvet and pillows are awash with extravagant looking ruches and ruffles and there’s a complementary faux silk throw available to complete the look.
Made from a delicate shade of oyster (cream) which would fit in well with a variety of decor schemes, the bedding is very feminine in style and design. If you want to add a dash of colour into it, then a range of cushions, as seen in the photo, are available to dress the bed.
Kylie’s Allure bedlinen range is sold by House of Fraser, with prices starting at £15 for a pillowcase.

Ornate decorated vase
This is a good example of a vase that I actually think looks better without any flowers in it.
This highly decorated ceramic vase is packed with a mass of individually crafted 3D roses, which produces a stunning effect. There’s an amazing amount of detail on the roses and they’re glazed to finish the look.
The round Betty rose vase is available in white and costs £32 from Brissi. If the round shape isn’t your cup of tea, it’s also available in a taller cylindrical shape too, with the same gorgeous finish.

Postcard placemat
If you like to lay your dining table properly for dinner, or want something eye-catching on the table for a special meal, then this unusual postcard placemat would make quite a statement.
Created by textile designer Lucie Pritchard, the pure linen placemat is silk screen printed to look like an old postcard. The address, stamp and postmark feature on the right hand side, with a message to the recipient on the left. The placemat measures 40cm by 28cm, offering an ideal amount of room to lay the cutlery around it and allow a good amount of space for hot plates or bowls to stand on it.
Linen provides the ideal look and feel for the placemat and is the kind of colour you’d expect to find on the back of a vintage postcard. At only £9, the placemat seems reasonably priced.
To complete the look, matching items are available too, including a silk screen printed stamp napkin and a postcard linen coaster.

Whittard have a new exclusive range of Alice in Wonderland theme china mugs.
Made in England from fine bone china, and designed by Gary Birks, the mugs feature some of the classic characters from Alice in Wonderland, such as the Mad Hatter, Rabbit, Dodo and Alice herself.
As well as the pictures, each mug carries a message too. For the Mad Hatter, it’s, “If you knew Time as well as I do you wouldn’t talk about wasting IT,” and the Rabbit mug says, “I’m late, I’m late.”
The mugs are usually priced at £10 each, but if you hurry, you may be in time to catch them whilst they’re reduced to only £7.50 each from Whittard of Chelsea.
