Oh So Pretty is a Cheshire-based company offering bowls and other serving ware made from recycled brass and aluminium in Northern India. The bowls are made by hand, and then glazed with deep enamel hues. There’s a wide range of sizes, shapes and colours available, but we choose to review the medium deep bowl in aluminium with a seasonal deep red enamel lining. It measures 17 x 17 x 7cm, and is also available in larger and smaller sizes. Our reviewer was Sara Walker.
This beautiful bowl was tailor made for Christmas. It’s made from aluminium then hand glazed inside with a deep, rich, red enamel, so that it reflects the light inside and out – ideal for putting on a candlelit table. It’s a really useful size, as well – large enough to serve salad or bread for a small dinner party, small enough to serve snacks at a larger event.
I thought it was well made and robust-looking – I think if you were to drop it the enamel might crack (I didn’t out that one to the test!). Otherwise, though, it’s much sturdier than using china which could be a plus if you have small children or young pets. It’s not oven or microwave proof and I think would prefer to be handwashed rather than put in the dishwasher.
I found myself using it constantly – when not in use as a serving bowl, it sat on the kitchen counter and did duty as a temporary fruit bowl! It’s very eye catching and several people remarked on it. I’ll continue to use this throughout the year, not just for Christmas. At £19 for the medium deep bowl, I thought this was great value for money for a bowl of this quality.
