Trade Chaos for Calm: Ideas to Simplify Your Home & Life

Clutter is something that can bring a home down and present negative energy, but, the problem is, that clutter can accumulate very quickly. What starts out well-intentioned can lead to our homes being filled with all sorts of items and possessions we no longer need or require.

This can result in us developing unnecessary stress, worry and anxiety, which makes it harder to relax in and enjoy our home environment. The good news is, there are things you can do to fix this problem, and simplifying your home is a great way to find calm in the chaos. Here are some of the best approaches you can take that will help you to achieve this.

Have an Action Plan

Having a plan of action is always important when it comes to improving your life, and this is something that can really help you make your property better to live in too. There are so many things that you need to consider, such as what areas of your home need work and decluttering, and you have to make sure that your actions and aims are achievable. A clear action plan can help you to plan for decluttering, as well as any home improvements you want to make.

Use Self Storage

Self storage is a useful option that will help you to declutter your home and create more space. Self storage facilities are perfect for people looking to improve their home and declutter as much as possible. There are loads of great ways of being able to simplify the home, and using a safe and secure self storage facility is one of the best ways of being able to achieve this. It’s a good way of looking after and taking care of your important possessions, whilst also decluttering your home in the process too, and is particularly helpful if you’ve downsized your property or inherited family items that you don’t currently have space to store at home.

Items don’t have to be stored forever, but having the dedicated space for them gives you the chance to go through them at your leisure and decide what you do and don’t need to keep.

Make the Most of Your Space

Making the most of the space you have is essential, and this is something that can really help lead to a calm and stress-free home environment. If you can achieve a comfortable and cosy home interior it will help you make the most of your space. If rooms aren’t currently working for you and something doesn’t feel right, try re-organising the furniture where feasible. It might be that moving a sofa to a different position or re-angling a bookcase could help open up the space, make it seem less cluttered and make it more family-friendly or welcoming.

Alternatively, if your space is cramped, then consider whether you need all your existing pieces of furniture. Perhaps the pieces might be too big and out of proportion with the room and maybe you could downsize, or get rid of something. It can be hard to get rid of items if you have sentimental attachment to them, but it’s worth considering (or putting them into storage) if they don’t currently work in your home interior.

Have a regular routine

Ideally, decluttering shouldn’t be something you have to do when things get untidy or overrun. In an ideal home life, decluttering and tidying are a regular part of life. If you can adopt a regular routine and encourage all family members to put items away, tidy up after themselves and get rid of items, such as toys or clothes, when they’ve outgrown them, you could keep on top of the clutter.

Get clever with storage

Some homes that look clean and calm and appear to have no clutter do – it’s just cleverly hidden from view. Think about ways in which you could get clever with your storage options, such as having drawers in a coffee table, adding cupboards in alcoves, making use of cupboards under stairs or even building storage into the back of a headboard in a bedroom. Think about places where you can add clever storage ideas in your home and hide that clutter away!

As you can see, there are a lots of ways of being able to improve your home and make it more comfortable to live in. Clearing the chaos and being able to present a calm and peaceful environment is one of the best and most important steps you can take when it comes to simplifying your home and making your life better as a result.
