The Cosy Home gift guide: Ideas for pets

Our Cosy Home pets are part of the family, and we’ll be treating them to something special on Christmas Day. From festive food to accessories, from beds to clothing, we’ve picked ten of our favourite pet pressies in the run-up to Christmas…now we just have to decide which one to buy!

1. Wooden crate cat bed, Plantabox

This sturdy wooden cat bed is made by Plantabox, who specialise in furniture and decorative accessories based on an original apple crate design. The bed comes with a foam cushion, is personalised with up to 24 characters and is available in a range of colours. £39.95 from Plantabox.

2. Catnip cat toy, Ecokitty

A pretty and affordable present for your feline friend is this catnip cushion, handmade from re-claimed fabric in Devon. If the timing’s right, it could help keep an inquisitive cat occupied while you carve the turkey. £3.99 by Ecokitty, available from Not on the High Street.

3. Personalised dog tag, Hashtagdogtag

Let your pooch’s personality shine through with these great dog tags. You choose your background colour, disc colour and charm to build your own tag, before specifying your pet’s name or a suitable caption such as ‘rabbitdigger’, ‘fencejumper’ or ‘fridgeopener’. We can see we’re going to have some fun with this! Prices start at £15.95 from the brilliantly named hashtagdogtag.

4. Festive biscuits, The Stylish Dog Company

Your pet may not altogether appreciate the festive message stamped onto these biscuits, but he’ll certainly appreciate the turkey and cranberry taste. Beautifully presented in a smart box, these biscuits will delight the most discerning of Dachshunds or suave of Setters. Available from The Stylish Dog Company, priced at £6.99.

5. Cat stocking, Reg & Ruby

We couldn’t resist this cute cat stocking, which comes with a catnip-filled toy. There’s plenty of room for you to add your own treats, as well. Far more stylish than others we’ve seen, we’d be happy to hang this stocking up alongside the rest of the family’s on Christmas Eve. And just to pre-empt an inter-species arguments on the day, it’s also available in a dog version. £6.99 from Ruby & Reg, available from John Lewis.

6. Dog scarf, Accessorize

For the discerning pooch-about-town, may we suggest this cosy Fairisle dog scarf? It’s probably more of a novelty item than a heating aid, but your dog will look very cute. It’s also great value at £5, available either in store or online from Accessorize.

7. Hedgehog house, Marks & Spencer

Even if you don’t have a pet, you can still help an animal this Christmas. How about this attractive wicker hedgehog house, designed to simulate the type of nest a hedgehog would naturally make? It also provides a safe place to raise young, and as an added incentive your garden should be slug-free by Spring! Priced at £19.50 from Marks & Spencer, available online or in store.

8. Dog chew, Reg & Ruby

We had to look twice at this ‘gingerbread house’, as the attention to detail made us think it really was gingerbread! There’s no sugar or spice involved, though – it’s really a festive rawhide chew toy that’ll delight your dog on Christmas Day. £14.99 from Reg & Ruby, available from John Lewis as before.

9. Cat treats, East of India

Does your cat have you wrapped around her little paw? Once she discovers that you’ve bought her this gorgeous jar of treats, made with real meat, she’ll know her vigorous human-training programme has paid off! Also available in dog and wild bird versions, priced at £9.95 by East of India. Available from Selfridges, online and in store.

10. Dog bow tie

Help your pup cut a dash on Christmas Day with these handmade dapper dog bow ties. In a range of different cotton fabrics, they attach neatly and securely to your dog’s collar, so that he can open the rest of his pressies looking suitably attired. £15 by Briar Rose from Not on the High Street.
