Like Christmas, Hallowe’en only comes round once a year, and we like to welcome it with open arms. We’ve put together our selection of seasonal homeware, accessories and goodies, all with a Cosy Home twist, to help you throw a Hallowe’en party with a difference this year.
1. Alhambra Home: Skeleton cushions
We love these cushions from Spanish-inspired homewares company Alhambra. They celebrate El Dia de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead, a Mexican public holiday that takes place on the 2nd November to honour the dead. With their bright, cheerful designs, they’re just as appropriate for adding a little Hallowe’en atmosphere to your party – priced at £18.50, see the full range at Alhambra Home.
2. Biscuit Village: Hallowe’en biscuits
Normally at Cosy Home, we’re huge fans of making everything from scratch. These biscuits are so much fun and so nicely made, though, that we’re going to make an exception. Available from Biscuit Village, they’re made with free range eggs and fairtrade cocoa, and cost £34.99 for a tin of 14 large biscuits.
3. Shop on your Doorstep: Ghost lamp
This lamp really makes us smile. Perfect as the centrepiece for your party, it’s also great for standing in a window or mark the party house or as a child’s nightlight. Available in glow-in-the-dark and non-glow versions from Shop on Your Doorstep, prices start at £73.50.
4. Gisela Graham: Hallowe’en welcome sign
At only £2.50 each, these wooden signs (available in three different slogans) are great for adding a little atmosphere on a budget. Hand them on your front door to make the venue, or above the party food table as a reminder. Available from The Contemporary Home.
5. Dotty Frog Décor: Hallowe’en bunting wall stickers
Decorate the party room with these fun stickers from Dotty Frog Décor, priced at £13.99. Designed to look like bunting and spelling out the message ‘Happy Halloween’, they’re reusable year after year and won’t mark walls, and unlike fabric bunting, there’s no risk of them getting pulled down accidentally.
6. My Gift Tree: Soup bowls
These cute little soup bowls will be in use all through the autumn and winter, not just at Halloween. Perfect for serving pumpkin soup to warm up your party guests, each one comes with a lid to keep contents hot, and its own spoon. £6.25 each, from My Gift Tree.
7. Red 5: Dead thirsty mug
We love these over-sized, eccentric ceramic mugs. They’re just the thing for serving mulled wine or blood-curdling cocktails to your guests, and the tapered shape is great for warming chilled hands around. Sturdy enough to last for years and years of Hallowe’en celebrations, as long as your guests don’t take too much of a fancy to them and keep them! £9.95 each from Red 5.
8. Bake Boutique: Spiced Candle
Create a welcoming atmosphere with a hint of autumn spices. This gorgeous candle from Bake Boutique has scents of ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon to fill your house, and the smart orange and black packaging will blend into a Hallowe’en colour scheme. Priced at £32, available from Lux Deco.
9. The Letteroom: Wooden letters
Spell out your own scary messages by standing these bright wooden letters up on shelves around the house, or sticking them on a wall. Each letter costs £3.75 from The Letterroom, and is available in a range of fonts and colours.
10. Hotel Chocolat: Chocolate skull lollipop
Perfect for trick-or-treaters, for handing out to leaving party guests or for serving with coffee at an adult dinner party, these lollipops are made from high quality chocolate from Hotel Chocolat, a British company passionate about creating quality products. Priced at £1.95 each, available from John Lewis.
