The Rangemaster Elan: Stylish Retro Cooking

Next best thing to an Aga

Rangemaster Elan

Rangemaster is a name synonymous with range cooking. Their collection spans the traditional and classically styled models through to contemporary stainless and gloss black range cookers. Many people consider the traditional sector to be where Rangemaster excels, and the Rangemaster Elan is a perfect example of this. This compact 90cm version happens to be one of our favourite models, too.

The Elan’s appearance harks back to a simpler time when there were only two television stations and shops didn’t open on a Sunday. It is visually the closest thing in Rangemaster’s collection to an AGA, thanks to hefty oven doors, distinctive control knobs and stylishly retro wire-wound handles that are straight out of the 1950’s. Oh, and a nice chrome temperature gauge on the tall oven door that adds nicely to the vintage appeal. If the Fonz used a range cooker, it would be the Elan.

This retro-chic exterior belies the cooking powerhouse beneath – a combination of multifunction and fanned ovens can take care of anything thrown at them, while the rugged hob area offers five gas burners, one of which is a powerful wok burner, and a removable half ribbed griddle adds to the versatility and authenticity. The hob furniture is all cast iron which affords it a sturdy resilience perfect for the traditional kitchen.

Build quality is extremely high, as you’d expect from anything that comes from Aga Rangemaster’s UK factory – everything feels solid, dependable and long lasting, from the lustrous enamels to the quality chrome detail on handles and control knobs.

We can’t praise the Elan 90 enough. It performs beautifully and looks as cool as a very cool thing indeed, especially in the cream finish that suits its handsome vintage looks perfectly – and all at a sensible price too.
