Wall print idea for a cosy home

Hot air balloon print

Up, up and away!

We love this hot air balloon screenprint from Roddy & Ginger. Its classic colour palette (navy, smokey blue and olivey yellow) are very on trend and it’s a lovely design to hang on a wall.

The ballooning print is sold unframed, but is a standard size to fit readily available frames, and costs £45.

The same balloon design is also available as a cushion (£28).

If you’ve not discovered Roddy & Ginger before, then do check out the rest of their products, as they produce some great wallpaper and textiles.

Daybreak canvas print from Laura Ashley

Coastal coastline print wall art

Daybreak coastal print

The photo doesn’t do this print justice – it’s much nicer in real life.

It’s a print we’ve been coveting for a while, but I’ve just found it reduced in the end of season sale in Laura Ashley. It’s quite long – 30cm by 90cm – and depicts a coastal town, not unlike many along the Devon or Cornwall coast.

The Daybreak canvas print was £65, but is now reduced down to £40.95.

Decorative metal wall art for your home

Oak tree wall art

A Life Less Ordinary sell some lovely home accessories – we’re rather smitten with this piece of metal wall art.

Designed in the shape of an oak tree, complete with roots extending out into the ground, this decorative piece would look stunning hung against a plain wall.

The oak tree metal wall art is available in two sizes – small, £30 (shown here and our favourite) and large, which costs £50.

Vintage shabby chic neutral wall art

Ornate flower wall art

There are lots of lovely pictures and wall art decorations available to buy, but if you want something subtle that will suit your neutral decoration or vintage home styling, then this cream wall tile could be the answer.

The large floral wall tile features an ornate flower head design and, although simple in style, looks very effective when it’s hung on a wall or propped on a mantlepiece.

The large cream flower wall tile is available to buy from Laura Ashley, where it costs £22.

Framed vintage opera score

Operatic home accessory

Operatic home accessory

This is a bit of a different idea and rather quirky.

London based vintage emporium, Colporter, collect and frame vintage old opera scores. The scores are all intact, with the sheet music preserved inside the frame. A selection of opera scores are available, with covers ranging in colour from blue, to turquoise and green. You can pick which score you’d like and whether you’d prefer a black or white frame.

I really like the idea (especially as the score is preserved and hasn’t just had the cover taken off, as is often the case when other similar old materials are framed) and it would make a special home gift for fans of opera.

Colporter sells the framed opera scores pictures via a shop on Not On The High Street.

Gorgeous framed butterfly collage by Tozzy Bridger

Unusual collage

Unusual collage

This unusual butterfly collage is handmade by Hampshire-based artist Tozzy Bridger, who uses strips of torn magazine cuttings to create beautiful collage designs.

The collage is made on recycled card and presented in a simple 17cm by 17cm frame with a caption underneath. You can choose from captions such as, ‘Rare specimen’, ‘Butterfly beautiful’, ‘Buttefly flutterby’ or come up with your own personalised caption.

Each piece is unique, so colours do vary, but the end result looks stunning. Compared to other similar collages, Tozzy’s butterfly collage seems very well priced at only £16.50. It would look lovely on a wall of your home, or be ideal  for a special gift.

The butterfly collage is available to purchase from Tozzy Bridger’s store on Not On The High Street. Other similar collages are available in the form of a dragonfly, moon, star and heart.

Floral heart hooks

Floral heart hooks

One of the latest lovely shops we’ve discovered is Capture the Castle, based in Rochester, Kent (their name can’t help but remind me of the book I Capture the Castle, by Dodie Smith).

As well as being a bricks and mortar shop, they also sell many of their ‘inspirational products for your home and garden’, which are sourced from all over the world, online.

Here’s a taster of the delights on offer.

The floral red and white heart hooks (pictured above) are made of wood and metal. They measure 10.5cm by 18cm and offer a nice way of hanging up your keys, coats or even tea towels in your home.

The heart hooks are £5.90 each.

Vintage geranium seed tin

Vintage geranium seed tin

This vintage galvanised seed tin is decorated with a geranium design and is useful for storing seeds in. The box measures 8cm by 10cm (would this fit a standard sized packet of seeds, we wonder?) and is £3.50.

Black metal wall tree Black metal wall tree

This lovely tree is made out of black metal and is designed to be hung from your wall. It looks great as it is, but its branches can hold pictures or postcards.

We think it would provide a great way of creating a visual family tree on your wall, linking pictures of your relatives together.

The black metal tree decoration is 22″ by 26″ and costs £39.99.

There’s of course lots more lovely products for sale on the Capture the Castle website, so go take a look!

Make your own wall art

Vintage design cake paper

Vintage design cake paper

If you fancy some new decorative art on your wall, don’t want to spend a fortune and don’t mind being a bit creative, then there are some great ways of creating inexpensive wall art yourself.

One tried and tested method, and something that doesn’t require a lot of artistic skill, is to purchase some good quality decorative wrapping paper and either use it simply as a poster on a wall, or for a more stylish look, pop it in an inexpensive frame.

If you like all things vintage, and are rather partial to cake, then this vintage cake paper by Cavallini would make a great piece of wall art.

The high quality paper features a range of sumptuous looking cakes, from archive designs, and measures 50cm by 70cm.

If you want something for a nursery or a child’s room, then they also do a lovely retro ABC paper, with colourful letters and representative images next to some of them. It measures the same size as the cake paper.

Why not make this into art for a nursery? Why not make this into art for a nursery?

Both the vintage cake paper and retro ABC paper can be purchased from Berry Red for £2.95 each.
