Lidded storage jar

Lidded storage jar

I can think of lots of things that I’d put in this useful storage jar. It would be great to keep in the cupboard, or use out on the table for serving sugar or jam.

Made of ceramic, the white pot is sold by Sorbet Living and currently has 50% off the original price. At only £7, it’s a great buy.

Grey willow cutlery basket

Cutlery organisation

Cutlery organisation

This great little willow basket is perfect for getting your cutlery organised. There are four compartments in the 15cm by 15cm basket that should cover all your basic cutlery needs (knives, forks, spoons and teaspoons), plus it has a useful handle, that makes it easy to carry to the table.

I’d use the basket indoors, as it would look great on my sideboard, but you could also make use of the handle to easily transport cutlery outdoors, to use for summer outdoor dining.

The cutlery storage basket it made from a nice grey willow and is only £6.99 from The Contemporary Home.

Hand woven washing basket with cotton lining

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Bargain reduced price sale basket

Crochet lined basket

I’m rather taken by this basket, which is designed for putting your laundry in.

The hand-woven basket has been nicely lined with white cotton and finished off with a crochet trim. The lining will prevent any pieces of the basket getting accidentally snagged on your clothes. Use it as a practical way of storing your laundy ready for washing, or to bring the freshly laundered items back in from the washing line.

Of course, you don’t just need to use it for washing – with its pretty lining, this basket would work well for all sorts of storage requirements.

The washing basket is sold by Laura Ashley and it’s currently in their sale for £25.20 (was £40).

Hotel style framed letter rack

Handy storage for notes or messages

Handy storage for notes or messages

I love this idea of a hotel style letter rack, from Berry Red.

The piece comes in a white washed wooden frame and inside there are six fabric covered racks. Each of the racks can be used to slot in notes, messages, receipts, postcards or reminders and it’s a really nice alternative to the other types of memo boards.

You could use it purely for display purposes, as greetings cards, photos or postcards would look great peeping out of the racks, or you could use it for the functional purpose of storing your receipts, shopping lists or reminders of things you’ve got to do.

The simple white washed frame makes the letter rack suitable for hanging in all sorts of rooms, from family kitchens to home offices.

If you fancy hanging the hotel style letter rack on your wall, then it’s £50 from Berry Red.

Butterfly letter holder from Urban Outfitters

Friday, May 21st, 2010

butterfly-letter-holder-black    butterfly-letter-holder-Blue

We’ve been browsing the range of homeware available at Urban Outfitters and have been quite taken by a number of items. First up are these dainty butterfly letter holders.

Produced in a cutwork effect, you really get to see the intricate detail on the butterfly wings. The piece is the perfect size to be a letter rack, but if you’ve got another storage use in mind, it would be equally effective.

The black sets the cutwork off very well, but the pale blue is a more softer colour that would look better in some rooms. It’s also available in white, too. Pop this letter holder on your desk, to replace a boring old one, and it would really liven things up.

Wilbury wooden cutlery storage chest

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Traditional cutlery box

Traditional cutlery box

This wooden cutlery box reminds me of a similar item that my grandparents used to have.

The box is designed to hold cutlery (although you could easily use it for anything else) and has four sections inside for storing all your knives, forks, spoons and teaspoons. Underneath there’s a a full width, deep drawer that would be perfect for storing larger serving spoons or cake slices.

The top of the box has a nice etched glass lid, so you can see at a glance what’s inside. As well as having a functional purpose, the box is nice enough to leave out on display in your dining room or kitchen. You could use it for storing your ‘best’ cutlery, or your everyday cutlery.

The Wilbury cutlery chest is available from Graham and Green for £36.

Umbra chrome jewellery tree

Jewellery tree

Jewellery tree

I’ve been looking for something suitable to hang necklaces on for a while and, whilst I’ve found some possible options, they’ve either been too small or too ridiculously large.

This chrome jewellery tree is a great find. Unlike some of the stands I’ve seen, it looks stylish and it’s functional.

Made by Umbra and designed by Jason Nip, the Bijou jewellery tree is perfect for hanging longer necklaces on, but there’s also room on the lower branches to hang bracelets, earrings or watches. Plus, there’s room at the bottom of the stand to store other bits and pieces too.

All Up and On currently have 25% off the jewellery tree, making it a rather good price.

Lovely homeware finds at House of Fraser

House of Fraser

House of Fraser

When I’m buying home accessories, I must admit that House of Fraser isn’t the first place I’d think of looking. But having stumbled across some of their homeware items, I’m really impressed.

All the items in the picture are available from House of Fraser and, used individually or together, they add a touch of charm and interest to your home.

The lilac bird keepsake box, near the front of the photo, is by Linea and the top comes off to reveal a secret hidey-hole for all your treasures and keepsakes. The box is £12.

The pink Linea butterfly vase is really unusual, as it’s decorated with 3D images of butterflies that look like they’ve just landed or about to fly off. It’s perfect for displaying a single rose or flower stem and is also priced at £12.

I love the ornate Varsailles cream mirror at the back, with its classical styling. Now is currently a good time to snap it up, as the price  has been reduced by £20 in the sale, making it a great bargain.

The watercolour glass photo frame is adorned with handpainted pink and blue floral and buttefly designs and fits really well with the other pieces.

The flowers draped around the ouside of the mirror are lovely as decoration, but they also function as lights too, so you can light up your mirror or dressing table area. The pink peony fabric lights are fitted with 20 bulbs and are ideal for creating a summery feel in a room.

This ‘n That storage box

Store your treasures in style

Store your treasures in style

For someone who has a lot of bits and pieces, this This’n That box is the perfect way of displaying my treasures.

In a white shabby chic style, the box features lots of compartments to store all your goodies. There are six small cube compartments, two small rectangular compartments, five larger rectangular areas and one full length compartment at the front. The lid is topped with glass, so all your bits and pieces will be protected from dust and damage, and the lid is hinged for easy opening.

I’ve already got a list of ideas of what I’d put in mine – what would you use it for?

The This’n That storage box is available from Graham and Green.
