Decorative tile effect light cover switch

Spruce up your light switches

If you’re fed up with plain and boring light switches, or don’t feel they look at home in the style of your house, then did you know you can jazz them up a bit?

Light switch covers are widely available, and if blue and white is your colour, these decorative light switch covers will transform the look of your switches in no time.

Handcrafted in California, and giving the look of a painted decorative tile, the cover is easy to fit over your existing switch.

The light switch covers cost £9.95 from House of Bath – if you buy two, you can save £2.

Monsoon Home neutral table lamp

Lovely lamp

Monsoon Home have some very glamorous lamps in stock at the moment and in some lovely colours. But if you just want something neutral, there’s no need to compromise on style, as this champagne coloured Ishani table lamp proves.

The base of the lamp, made from glass and steel, features the ever popular glass stacked style. The champagne coloured  shade is livened up with ribbon stripes – subtlely different colours and different fabrics add interest and light.

Measuring 49.5cm in height, the Ishani table lamp costs £80 from Monsoon.

Amity amethyst purple glass lamp base

Bargain glass lamp base

Bargain glass lamp base

I’ve had my eye on this Amity lamp base for a while. I love glass lamp bases and the elegant style and subtle colour of this one (which is actually a bit more pinky than purplely, in my view) would work really well in my bedroom.

So how could I possibly resist it, when I discovered it was in the sale?

This lamp base beauty was priced at £65, but has £19.50 off, making it a much more affordable £45.50.

If you fancy owning one too, then head over to Laura Ashley, where the Amity glass lamp base is still in stock. If it’s not quite to your taste, then they also have lots of other lighting options and other tempting homeware items with up to 50% off in their sale.

Pale green Moroccan style lantern

Summer lantern

Summer lantern

Lanterns are a lovely form of home accessory that have so many uses all year round. I love having lanterns lit by the fireside on a cold, winter night and enjoy watching the glow of the candle flicker inside. During the summer lanterns are perfect for taking outside in the garden, to provide much needed light as dusk falls. They’re the ideal accompaniment to evening barbecues or drinks in the garden.

This Moroccan-style lantern is in an appropriate summer colour – leaf, or pale green – and would make an ideal summer lantern. It’s got room inside for a tealight and has a useful loop on the top of it, so it can be hung. If you’re going to be using it outside, then it’s worth investing in an inexpensive lantern crook to use with it. You stick it in the ground, then hang the lantern from the hook at the top. It provides light at a good height and avoids it accidentally been knocked over.

The Moroccan lantern is reasonably priced, at only £7.95, and is firmly on my summer essentials list.

Bombay Duck reduced vintage chandelier

Vintage Lolita chandelier

Vintage Lolita chandelier

Bombay Duck is one of my favourite shops and I love exploring all the new door handles, hooks and other gorgeous homeware that they’ve got in stock.

They’re renowned for having lovely chandeliers, although usually they’re a bit far out of my budget. But then this beauty caught my eye.

The bestselling vintage Lolita black chandelier, with crystal flowers, has been significantly reduced in price – down from £245 to £125. It’s adorned with tiny black beads, crystal cut flowers and crystal pendants and would look stunning hung from the ceiling.

I’m sorely tempted. What do you think?
