Handmade shelf and kitchen roll holder

Alison Capeling got in touch via Twitter to let us know about her shop and products. The online store and shop in Truro sell a variety of lovely home interiors and accessories, focusing on country style and coastal living.

Alison designs furniture too, which is handmade by carpenter, Phil. We love the idea of this functional kitchen shelf, which has a built in kitchen roll holder shelf below, on which you can also hang tea towels or kitchen towels. Shown here in vintage lime white, the shelf is also available pale sage, white or French Grey, and is made to order.

There’s also a practical shelf available for the bathroom, with useful pegs underneath the shelf.

For more details about the handmade kitchen roll holder shelf, or to discover lots more inspiring home furniture and accessories, check out Alison Capeling’s website.

Rose pattern bin

At first glance, this looks like a rose patterned storage jar, but on closer inspection, it’s actually a pedal bin.

Who knew a bin could be so pretty? It’s the perfect finishing touch for a country style kitchen or bathroom.

Reduced price blue spotty towel bale set

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Spotty towels

Spotty towels

Towels and other accessories are a great way of adding colour into the bathroom, especially as they can easily be changed if you decide to introduce a new colour scheme.

This set of blue and white polka dot towels would be ideal if you’d like a bit of colour in your bathroom, but don’t want to go overboard on it. Some of the towels are left plain white, whilst others have various bluey shades of polka dots on them. You could use them all at once, to create a mix and match approach, mix them with other blue towels or simply have the matching towels in use at any one time.

The Christy towel bale set consists of six pieces – two bath towels, two hand towels and two face cloths – and it benefits from being significantly reduced in the Debenhams homeware sale. It started off life as costing £50 and is now only £15.

Beautifully decorated rose soap

Beautifully decorated rose soap

We’ve been watching Kirstie’s Homemade Christmas, on Channel 4, with interest and were rather pleased to see Jenny, from the lovely Odds and Suds, making soap with Kirstie.

We featured Odds and Suds in October and are big fans of their soaps, so if you’re interested in seeing more of their products, do go and check them out.

If you’ve got time to have a go with making your own soap, then there’s a recipe here.

Tomorrow night (Thurs 10th December) Kirstie’s set to be making more homemade goodies, like chocolate truffles. If this is more your cup of tea, then check out the review of Life is Sweet on Fresh Design Blog, as it’s packed full of ideas for gorgeous sweets and chocolate to make at home.

For more on Kirstie’s Homemade Christmas antics, have a read of Hygge Nook’s live blog.

West baskets at Zara Home

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Every home needs a basket

Every home needs a basket

We can’t think of a single home that couldn’t benefit from a basket or two (or seven).

Toys, blankets, spare toiletries – baskets store anything and everything.

Park it in the bedroom, bathroom, toy room or lounge and you have something signficantly more stylish than the ubiquitous plastic box. What’s not to love about them?

Zara Home sells these vegetable fibre west baskets for £19.90 each.

Vicenza metal butterfly mirror

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Butterfly mirror

Butterfly mirror

Mirrors don’t have to be merely functional, they should be beautiful too.

Find one adorned with butterflies like this and you’re on to a winner. It’s succeeded in being feminine, but the dark metal keeps it looking elegant rather than frothy. We can see it on a dressing table or as an accessory anywhere.

If you need any more persuading, it’s even on sale for £17.60 at Debenhams.

Odds and Suds handmade soaps

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Beautifully decorated rose soap

Beautifully decorated rose soap

Devon-based Odds and Suds make gorgeous handmade soaps that not only look lovely in your bathroom, but are great to use too.

The company uses traditional methods to make the soaps, whisking everything by hand, and only uses natural ingredients, such as extra virgin olive oil,  flowers, herbs and spices.

For an extra special touch in your bathroom, the finished products look just the part. The rose soap, for example, is finished off with rosebuds on the top, and infused with rose hips and poppy seeds. It costs £3.80 for 100g.

All of the handmade products can be bought online from Odds and Suds, or from one of their two retail outlets in Ashburton or Tavistock, Devon.

Graham and Green crown glass jar

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Add a regal touch to your bathroom

Add a regal touch to your bathroom

It’s often hard to find stylish bathroom accessories, but this crown topped glass jar from Graham and Green is an exception.

The glass storage jar has a ribbed effect on the sides, and it topped off with an eye-catching antiqued silver plate crown stopper.

It would look lovely filled with colourful bubble bath, bath salts or cotton buds (there’s just room to slip them in).

If you didn’t want it in your bathroom, it would work equally well filled with sugar in the kitchen, or simply as a decorative accessory elsewhere in your home.

The crown storage jar is £24.95 from Graham and Green.
