Beautifully decorated rose soap

Beautifully decorated rose soap

We’ve been watching Kirstie’s Homemade Christmas, on Channel 4, with interest and were rather pleased to see Jenny, from the lovely Odds and Suds, making soap with Kirstie.

We featured Odds and Suds in October and are big fans of their soaps, so if you’re interested in seeing more of their products, do go and check them out.

If you’ve got time to have a go with making your own soap, then there’s a recipe here.

Tomorrow night (Thurs 10th December) Kirstie’s set to be making more homemade goodies, like chocolate truffles. If this is more your cup of tea, then check out the review of Life is Sweet on Fresh Design Blog, as it’s packed full of ideas for gorgeous sweets and chocolate to make at home.

For more on Kirstie’s Homemade Christmas antics, have a read of Hygge Nook’s live blog.

West baskets at Zara Home

Every home needs a basket

Every home needs a basket

We can’t think of a single home that couldn’t benefit from a basket or two (or seven).

Toys, blankets, spare toiletries – baskets store anything and everything.

Park it in the bedroom, bathroom, toy room or lounge and you have something signficantly more stylish than the ubiquitous plastic box. What’s not to love about them?

Zara Home sells these vegetable fibre west baskets for £19.90 each.

Statement star mirror

Statement star mirror

Every living room needs a statement wall piece and this star mirror may well be the thing.

It’s a full one metre across, so it’s certainly big enough to make an impact and we envisage it as being one of those investment pieces that you’ll keep for years. Or just give it to us.

It’s £110 at Next.

Squares are cool

Squares are cool

We love the patchwork trend, though we’re not quite ready to thread up a needle and attack a pile of material ourselves.

So, we love to stumble on pretty finds like Boho Bebe’s patchwork quilt, cushions and baby mats that bring the trend to your child’s room. They even have mini bunting for a mere £5 – perfect for the nursery.

Prices start at £15 for a cushion up to £95 for the quilt at Angel At My Table.

Cute as a button hearts

Not only do we think these button hanging hearts will look terrific on your Christmas tree but we can think of a whole ton of other uses for them too from jazzing up a boring cupboard door to hanging in the window. In fact, we think they could be hung up all year round!

You can find them for sale for £6 at Daisy Park in coral pink or cream.

Blue cake stand spotted at Laura Ashley

Perfect for afternoon tea

Perfect for afternoon tea

We love the idea of afternoon tea and you can’t possibly have one without a cake stand. Amongst all the pretty pink and cream offerings, we spyed this three tiered blue stand handpainted with dots and stripes which we think will do the trick.

It’s £25 from Laura Ashley where we found it in the 3 for 2 section, so you may as well purchase another gift and then a little something for yourself thrown in for free. Marvellous. Now, what cakes shall we have?

Butterfly mirror

Butterfly mirror

Mirrors don’t have to be merely functional, they should be beautiful too.

Find one adorned with butterflies like this and you’re on to a winner. It’s succeeded in being feminine, but the dark metal keeps it looking elegant rather than frothy. We can see it on a dressing table or as an accessory anywhere.

If you need any more persuading, it’s even on sale for £17.60 at Debenhams.
