Vintage china at Patchwork Harmony

4-china-plates                  teacup-trio

We were reading the Patchwork Harmony blog earlier on and noticed that Caroline had written about uploading some new items to the vintage section of her shop.  Having a distinct soft spot for vintage items, we couldn’t help but rush off to have a look!

Patchwork Harmony have some lovely ‘one of a kind’ vintage finds and we couldn’t help but be seduced by the look of some of the china. Like this set of four china plates, with dainty purple and white flowers, for example. The plates have lovely gold rims and would be perfect for afternoon tea parties. There’s only one set of four available and they’re priced at £7.95.

If you’d like something to treat yourself with, then you could buy this china cup, saucer and plate set. Made by Royal Osborne, the trio set features pale blue and white flowers, with a subtle hint of pink. Again, only set is available, for £8.95.

If I hadn’t just purchased an entire vintage tea set, I could have been sorely tempted. There’s lots more besides china, like this floral patterned glass jug, enamel tea pot  and these fab vintage plaster tins, so go and have a look!

Classic ornate silver mirror

Ornate classic mirror

Ornate classic mirror

This lovely classically styled ornate silver mirror would look lovely above your mantlepiece or in a bedroom.

It has a solid wood frame with baroque style detailing, which is finished with silver, and a bevelled mirror. It can be hung either horizontally or vertically, which offers lots of possibilities.

The mirror looks well crafted and expensive, but we were amazed that it’s actually available from Sainsbury’s. Best of all the price has currently been reduced by 20%, so it’s now only £48.

Handmade doorstop by Sarah Nicol

These rather quirky felt doorstops are handmade by British textile designer, Sarah Nicol.

They’re designed in the shape of a house, made from felt and recycled fabrics and each house is completely different.

The doorstops measure 25cm by 11cm and are available exclusively, on a made to order basis, from Funky Olive.

You can choose the colourway – reds, blues, dark pink, oranges and greens – and the expected time to make and deliver the doorstop is three weeks.

The house doorstops are currently priced at £38 each – find out more at Funky Olive.

Heart shaped chalkboard

Heart shaped chalkboard

The trend for adding chalkboard into home interiors is continuing (there are lots of chalkboard paints that you can use on your walls, for example), but if all you want is something simple to jot down a few notes on, then how about this lovely heart shaped chalkboard?

The board is handmade in Britain, is designed to hang and has a little extra addition in the form of a smaller decorative heart.

Depending how much space you’ve got available, or how much you want to write on the board, it’s available in three sizes – small (£8.50), medium (£10.50) and large (£15.50). You’ll find it for sale over on the Angel website.

Black and white three drawer chest

Monsoon mini chest

Monsoon mini chest

I’m smitten with mini chests of drawers. They don’t take up much room, the drawers are practical for keeping all sorts of trinkets and treasures in and they can be highly decorative too.

This black and white gem is a lovely example of one such three drawer mini chest. It’s available from Monsoon and features hand printed white bone details of flowers and leaves on each drawer.

The mini chest measures 24.5cm x 12cm x 10cm and is finished off with miniature brass knobs. It costs £20 and could look great in your home.

Decorative fabric clothes hangers

Friday, September 11th, 2009
Blue and white fabric hanger

Blue and white fabric hanger

If you’re fed up with unattractive, plastic hangers in your wardrobe, then a lovely way of livening things up is to invest in some fabric clothes hangers.

Not only do they help your wardrobe to look streamlined and organised, but they could also offer extra protection to your clothes too, especially when they’re padded. That’s because some of the cheaply made plastic and wire hangers are often poorly made, break easily or may have areas where you clothes snag on them.

If you want clothes to come out of your wardrobe looking well hung and crease free, then decent hangers make all the difference.

Unique Coat Hangers are one company that specialise in producing special clothes hangers.

This blue and beige fabric floral coat hanger, for example, started life as a wooden coat hanger. It’s been padded, covered with 100% cotton fabric and has a gilt hook.

The single blue and beige hanger from Unique Coat Hangers is only £4, and they have loads of other gorgeous designs and colours available too.

Alternatively, if you fancy having a go at being creative and making your own decorative fabric clothes hangers, then you’ll find some step-by-step instructions over on Design Sponge.

Margot Berry silk quilt

Margot silk quilt

Margot silk quilt

There are some gorgeous new autumn home ranges and products coming out and this colourful Margot berry quilt from the Designers Guild caught our eye.

The quilt is made of 100% silk and it features a hand blocked design in shades of berry (pinky, purpley). It would be a lovely addition to any bed and provide a nice touch of colour, without being overpowering.

Needless to say, as it’s silk and handblocked, it sadly isn’t cheap. But if you’re got £250 to invest in special bedding, then this could be the quilt for you.

Capture the Castle home and garden products

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009
Floral heart hooks

Floral heart hooks

One of the latest lovely shops we’ve discovered is Capture the Castle, based in Rochester, Kent (their name can’t help but remind me of the book I Capture the Castle, by Dodie Smith).

As well as being a bricks and mortar shop, they also sell many of their ‘inspirational products for your home and garden’, which are sourced from all over the world, online.

Here’s a taster of the delights on offer.

The floral red and white heart hooks (pictured above) are made of wood and metal. They measure 10.5cm by 18cm and offer a nice way of hanging up your keys, coats or even tea towels in your home.

The heart hooks are £5.90 each.

Vintage geranium seed tin

Vintage geranium seed tin

This vintage galvanised seed tin is decorated with a geranium design and is useful for storing seeds in. The box measures 8cm by 10cm (would this fit a standard sized packet of seeds, we wonder?) and is £3.50.

Black metal wall tree Black metal wall tree

This lovely tree is made out of black metal and is designed to be hung from your wall. It looks great as it is, but its branches can hold pictures or postcards.

We think it would provide a great way of creating a visual family tree on your wall, linking pictures of your relatives together.

The black metal tree decoration is 22″ by 26″ and costs £39.99.

There’s of course lots more lovely products for sale on the Capture the Castle website, so go take a look!
